Call to Action on Constitutional Carry

After passing in the House by an overwhelming majority of 65-31, HB 1369 still has not been scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Sen. Liz Brown.  The agenda for the  Judiciary meeting on March 24 was released yesterday and HB 1369 is not on it.  That gives us only two more dates for it to be heard – March 31 and April 7.  Otherwise, the bill dies without a vote in the Senate.

For these reasons, it is critical us to contact Sen. Brown, her legislative assistant Kaitlyn Gomez and Senate President Pro Tem Rod Bray and respectfully ask that HB 1369 be given a hearing in the Senate, preferably on March 31. Points to make are as follows (feel free to cut and paste):

  • HB 1369 does not change who can purchase a firearm, who can carry a handgun or where guns may be carried.  Those persons who are prohibited from buying a gun or receiving a handgun license today will be “prohibited persons” who may not legally purchase or possess a handgun under HB 1369.  HB 1369 has no effect on any “gun free zones” that exist today.
  • Constitutional Carry has now been adopted in 18 states and there is NO DATA to suggest it increases violent crime or danger to police officers on any way.
  • Criminals carry handguns without any concern for licensing requirements – those requirements only create a financial and logistical obstacle for law-abiding citizens that is simply ignored by criminals.
  • The right to bear arms is guaranteed to Hoosiers through the Second Amendment and Article I, Section 32 of the Indiana Constitution.  Law-abiding citizens should not have to beg permission from the government in order to exercise a Constitutional right already guaranteed to them by our founding fathers.
  • Passage of HB 1369 in the House by the overwhelming margin of 65-31 demonstrates the support this bill has among voters and legislators.  The bill deserves a hearing and a vote in the Senate.  For one committee chairman to kill it in the Senate without a vote is WRONG.

Please contact Sen. Brown, her legislative assistant, Kaitlyn Gomez and Senate President Pro Tem Rod Bray today.  HB 1369 deserves a hearing and a vote in the Senate!

Indiana House Bill 1369 Clears First Hurdle!

The House Public Policy Committee just passed an amended HB 1369, Constitutional Carry by a vote of 9-3 and will move on to the Second and Third Reading stage THIS WEEK. This bill would improve the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their loved ones through Constitutional Carry in the state of Indiana. **Please ask your state representative to SUPPORT this critical bill that improves self-defense in Indiana**. If you don’t know who your representatives are you can CLICK THE LINK BELOW:

House Bill 1369 allows any law-abiding adult who is legally eligible to obtain a carry permit, to carry a handgun without first having to obtain government permission. An eligible citizen would be able to exercise their Second Amendment right through carrying a concealed handgun without a concealed carry permit.  This ensures that citizens have their right to self-defense without government red tape or delays. It does not affect previously issued carry permits, and allows citizens who still wish to obtain a permit in order to carry in other states recognizing Indiana permits, to do so.

Please ask your state representative to SUPPORT this critical bill that improves self-defense in Indiana. If you don’t know who your representatives are you can CLICK THIS LINK.

The 2A Project Supports HB 1369, Permitless Carry in Indiana

HB 1369, Permitless Carry in Indiana Introduced

Thanks to the 2A Project for this article explaining the importance of HB 1369, Permitless Carry in Indiana!

The 2A Project has been working for months with several legislators to develop the very best Constitutional Carry bill possible and we are pleased and excited to support HB 1369, authored by Rep. Ben Smaltz (chairman of the House Public Policy Committee), Rep. Matt Lehman and Rep. Tim Wesco.  This bill removes the requirement of a License to Carry Handgun for a person to lawfully carry a handgun in Indiana – so Indiana can finally join the ranks of the States that recognize that law-abiding citizens should not have to seek permission from the government to exercise a basic Constitutional right!

Imporantly, the bill overcomes several obstacles that have caused opposition to Constitutional Carry in the past – including the argument that it would allow “prohibited persons” to carry handguns in Indiana.

The 2A Project will let our members know immediately when a hearing is set on this bill.  We plan to PACK THE STATEHOUSE with a “2A Project Rotunda Day” – and we want ALL of our members to attend wearing their 2A Project t-shirts.  More news to follow on date, time and protocol.

You can see the complete bill and track its progress here:   http://184.175.130.101/legislative/2021/bills/house/1369
